LANSING, Ill. (May 24, 2018) – As one of the first visible steps in creating Lansing’s first dog park, crews began pouring asphalt today. The street-side area to the west of the park will be parallel parking in front of the dog park. Overflow parking will be available in front of the maintenance building.

Behind the scenes, other work is being done. Park district staff are developing a list of rules for the dog park. Those rules will be included in a packet of information that must be sent to the Cook County Administrator of Animal and Rabies Control for approval. The Cook County ordinance regarding dog parks requires that certain rules be enforced at a community dog park. Specific vaccination requirements are also part of the ordinance, which is why Lan-Oak Park District must ask for proof of vaccinations when people register for the dog park.

Sharon Desjardins, Senior Superintendent of Strategy & Operations, plans to send the packet to Cook County on Tuesday. “The Administrator of Animal and Rabies Control will review it and either approve or ask for changes,” said Desjardins. “I am not expecting changes, but you never know.”
