Obituary: Jean E. Nemitz

Jean E. Nemitz
Jean E. Nemitz (nee Hannon), age 88 of Lansing, IL, formerly of Roseland, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 3, 2018. She is survived by her four children: Karen (Bob) Lake, Kathy (Mike) Fish, Kim (Howard) Silkowski, and John (Cheryl) Nemitz; eight grandchildren: Matt (Michelle) Fish, Eric (Margaret) Fish, Rob Lake, Ashley (Nick) Houlihan, Katie (George) Tagler, Sara (Andrew) Brazzale, Erin Silkowski, and Nicole Silkowski; and six great grandchildren: Abby, Brooke, and Hannah Fish, Barnes and Vivienne Fish, and Georgie Tagler. Jean is also survived by her brother: Bob (Marlene) Hannon; five nephews and one niece and their families; and many cherished friends. Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George, in 1981, and mother, Georgia (Don) Lindstrom.

Friends are invited to visit with Jean’s family on Wednesday, August 8, from 3:00–8:00pm at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 9, beginning with Closing Prayers at 9:15am at the funeral home and proceeding to St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 768 Lincoln Avenue, Calumet City, Illinois, for a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial. Jean will be laid to rest next to her husband in Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jean’s name to Hospice of the Calumet Area, 600 Superior Drive, Munster, IN 46321, or the charity of your choice.

Jean worked as the office manager for Peter Levin Pontiac from 1981 until she retired. She also worked for Burt Rose Ford in Roseland for 25 years, from 1956–1981. She was an avid reader and loved to travel. She visited many European countries, took many cruises, and visited many U.S. cities. Jean belonged to a Senior Bowling League and Bridge Clubs, and she enjoyed playing cards. She loved throwing parties and entertaining in her home, which was always open to everyone. She was a loyal supporter of all her grandchildren’s sports events. She enjoyed watching ballgames, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune, and outdoor activities.

Jean was a loving, caring mother, beloved grandmother and great grandmother, and dear friend to many. And she adored her fur friend, her dog “Murphy.” She had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest.
