Elite horses and riders compete for top prizes in Crete

August 15–19 at Balmoral Park

CRETE, Ill. (August 10, 2018) – HITS Chicago-Balmoral Park will host the Showplace End of Summer II equestrian competition August 15–19. The five-star Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) event will involve equestrians from near and far in an extensive hunter/jumper competition.

This is the second week of competition, and the top prize is $500,000.

The competition runs from 8:00am–4:00pm, Thursday through Sunday. The Grand Prix, or finals, will start at 2:00pm on Sunday, August 19.

“Events like this offer an exciting opportunity for all ages,” said Jim Garrett, President/CEO of the Chicago Southland Visitors Bureau. “We hope to see families at this unique venue for a visual treat. HITS Chicago-Balmoral Park is a true gem for our region.”

The 200-acre property boasts numerous hospitality amenities, including a 4,467-seat mint-condition grandstand and a state-of-the-art VIP Clubhouse overlooking all of the competition rings. Spectators are welcome to view the horses and culture of this lifestyle. There is no admission charge for daytime performances Wednesday–Saturday. On Sunday, general admission tickets are $10. Children 12 and under are free.

  • $35,000 SMARTPAK CLASSIC (Friday, August 17 – Free)
  • $35,000 AIG CLASSIC (Saturday, August 18 – Free)
  • $500,000 HITS CHICAGO GRAND PRIX (Sunday, August 19 – $10)
