DYER, Ind. (September 22, 2018) – In mid-June, as the 2018 school-year schedules were being finalized, Illiana teacher Emily Hillegonds invited me to come speak to her Creative Writing class. Each year, she sprinkles a variety of professional writers throughout the semester, giving her students an opportunity to interview them and learn what “real-life” writing is like. I have been a guest twice before, and I enjoy interacting with the students. Their questions help me see my work from a fresh perspective, and putting my answers into words helps me crystallize my thoughts.
This year we spent quite a bit of time talking about news, and decision-making, and community, and the future of print media, and whether there should be a Lansing Journal news app. It was a helpful discussion.
