Lansing Library to host property tax assessment appeal seminar for Thornton Township

LANSING, Ill. (December 10, 2018) – Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak will hold a property tax assessment appeal seminar at the Lansing Public Library (2750 Indiana Avenue) for taxpayers seeking to appeal their 2018 property tax assessments. Thornton Township is open for appeal through December 27, 2018. The seminar will be held on Monday, December 17, at 6:00pm.

The seminar is sponsored by Lansing Mayor Patty Eidam. The hour-long session will educate taxpayers on how to file a successful tax appeal.

The seminar will include a presentation by Commissioner Dan Patlak explaining the appeal procedure. Before the end of the evening, taxpayers will have an opportunity to work with staff from the Board of Review to address their specific questions and concerns.

No fee

This event is free to the public, and there is no fee to appeal at the Board of Review. Registration is not required.

Filing options

Taxpayers may file an appeal online by visiting the Board of Review website:

Alternatively, appeal forms also may be picked up at the Board of Review (located at 118 N. Clark Street, Room 601, in Chicago) or at local township offices. Forms can also be downloaded from the Board of Review website and printed out.

Lansing residents who live north of 186th Street are in Thornton Township; residents south of 186th are in Bloom Township.

One-on-one help for Bloom Township residents

Bloom Township Assessor Nora Martinez-Gomez is also letting Lansing residents know that Bloom Township is also currently open for Property Tax Appeals with the Cook County Board of Review. The Assessor’s office will be accepting appeals for only 30 days; the last day to file an appeal will be January 8, 2019.

Martinez-Gomez says, “If you are interested in filing a property tax appeal please come into the office with your Tax Bill and Picture ID. My staff will be able to answer any questions you may have and file all the necessary paperwork for your appeal.”
