LANSING, Ill. (December 15, 2018) – For the Hispanic Catholic community in Lansing, Illinois, and surrounding areas, December 12 is a day to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe. Chairs were set up in Alberto’s Beauty Salon (3218 171st Street) for the 9:00am mass, which was followed by a lunch provided by Three Roosters (3224 171st Street) and music provided by El Mariachi Imperial Azteca.

The crowd was smaller this year, but the singing was just as fervent, and the fellowship was just as warm. The mariachi numbers included festive footwork as well as strong vocals:

The crowd enjoyed interacting with the music as well:

Lansing’s annual Celebración de nuestra Virgen de Guadalupe is particularly meaningful for Hispanics, but hospitality is extended to all of Lansing. The Lady of Guadalupe is said to represent the poor and marginalized, and Mexican-American hospitality is famous for making people feel welcome.

The celebration happens annually on December 12, usually beginning at 9:00am.

Alberto’s Beauty Salon is located at 3218 171st Street in Lansing, Illinois.
