Thanksgiving thoughts:
Jim Hoover

by Patricia Muhammad

Thanksgiving is a national holiday set aside for family and friends to gather together to offer thanks and share blessings received throughout the year. Thanksgiving dinner is a traditional expression of gratitude and is symbolic of abundance. Recently, at a community dinner at Lansing’s Trinity Lutheran Church, participants shared with The Lansing Journal their personal thoughts, ideas, and family memories related to Thanksgiving. We published a few in our November print issue, and now we’re publishing all of them online as a “Thanksgiving thoughts” series.

“I celebrate Thanksgiving with my wife’s family because my family is far away. I also celebrate with my children and grandchildren. Usually on Thanksgiving Day in the morning, we all get together and play touch football for a couple of hours, and then we have dinner. This year, dinner will be (hosted) at my daughter’s. We also watch a little NFL football on Thanksgiving Day, but the children are not as interested in the game. We used to go to my wife’s grandmother’s home in Wisconsin, and we had a great time up there. She (grandmother) was really a good host and a fine lady.”
