Lansing, Illinois, Police Department hiring Probationary Police Officer

LANSING, Ill. (February 5, 2018) – The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Probationary Police Officer. The Lansing, Illinois, Police Department currently consists of 58 sworn officers.

Starting salary for the position is $56,449.35 plus benefits.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • U.S. Citizen with a valid driver’s license
  • 21 years of age by March 24, 2018, and under the age of 35 at the time of final eligibility posting (This age limitation does not apply to current or previously employed full-time police officers or other exemptions as defined in Illinois Compiled Statutes 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6.)
  • Valid POWER test card due at orientation (POWER test card is considered valid only if dated between March 24, 2017, and March 24, 2018. Applicants who do not have a valid POWER test card should contact NIPSTA at nipsta.org or 847-998-8090, or Joliet Junior College at jjc.edu/fitness-center for testing dates.)
  • 60 college credit hours (Official transcripts are required at orientation.)
  • Residency within the Village of Lansing within six months after completion of the 12-month probationary period
  • Successful completion of all phases of the testing process

Application packets are available at the Village of Lansing Municipal Center, 3141 Ridge Road in Lansing, Illinois. The Municipal Center is open Monday–Friday 9:00am–5:00pm, and Saturday 9:00am–12:00pm. There is a non-refundable fee of $25.00 for the application packet.

The process

A mandatory orientation session for applicants will be held at the Eisenhower Center (2550 178th Street) on March 24, 2018, at 11:30 am. The written exam will follow at 1:00pm.

Applicants who pass the written exam will be scheduled to take the oral exam. All oral exams will be held during the week of April 9, 2018.
