MANTENO, Ill. (February 15, 2018) – Lansing Boy Scout Troop 276, along with some volunteers, spent the afternoon of February 11 visiting the Manteno Veterans Home. The group hosted a party for the residents.
The party started with the Presentation of Colors. Tess Hensley, a Lansing Christian School student, sang the National Anthem. Snacks, sandwiches, beverages, and desserts were then served by the scouts. A cash raffle was held for entertainment.
Troop moms conducted a fundraiser to cover party expenses, and Calumet Bakery and JJ Kelly’s contributed. In addition, people donated useful items for the scouts to give to the veterans.
“This event is a way of showing our appreciation to these veterans that have given so much to provide us with the freedoms that we enjoy,” said Chuck Murach, Assistant Scoutmaster.
Troop 276 is sponsored by Lansing American Legion Post 697. Activities include monthly campouts, hikes, social outings, and summer camp. Scouts ages 11–17 practice leadership, engage in service, develop self-reliance, and learn life skills.
Regular meetings are held at 7:00pm most Tuesdays, at the American Legion Hall, 18255 Grant Street in Lansing. For more information or to contact a troop leader, visit www.bsatroop276.org.
