(February 24, 2018) – “This is your Village Board, and these are the people you serve,” said Chief Ken Verkaik to the newest member of the Lansing Fire Department, Nick Vukelich. The February 20 meeting of the Village Board gave Verkaik an opportunity to let the Board and community meet Vukelich, but Verkaik also likes to make a point of letting his guys see their elected officials and fellow residents face to face.
Vukelich previously served with fire departments in Burnham, Dolton, and Flossmoor. He was sworn in as a Lansing firefighter on January 22. He is a firefighter and a paramedic.
After the introductions, Verkaik told Vukelich, “Our hope is that you have a long and prosperous career here.”
