Passport Fair at select Post Offices

LANSING, Ill. (March 5, 2018) – Select Post Offices in the Central Illinois District are hosting a Passport Fair on Saturday March 10, 2018. Postal clerks will be on hand to provide passport information and to accept passport applications, with no appointments necessary.

To help speed up the process, customers should fill out forms ahead of time. Application forms, information on costs, and instructions about how to apply for a passport book and/or passport card can be found at usps.com/passport or travel.state.gov/passport. Customers can also obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 877-487-2778.

To apply for a passport, applicants need:

  • Proof of identification — You may submit items such as the following containing your signature and a photograph that is a good likeness of you: Current or previous U.S. passport, naturalization certificate, certificate of citizenship, current and valid driver’s license (not temporary or learner’s permit), government ID, or military ID. NOTE: A photocopy of the identification—front and back—must be submitted with your passport application. If the document is two sided, then a photocopy of the front and back of the document must be provided.
  • Proof of citizenship — You may choose any one of the following:
    1. Certified birth certificate issued by the city, county, or state
    2. Naturalization certificate (a hospital-issued birth certificate alone is not acceptable) or certificate of citizenship, consular report of birth abroad and
    3. An expired passport

Other requirements

The passport application requires a recent color passport photograph of you (2” x 2” in size), which the Post Office Passport Office can provide for $15.

All applicants must appear in person (including minors). Minors under the age of 16 must appear with both parents. If one parent is not available, a notarized authorization from the absent parent is required.

Each passport for an adult must be accompanied by a check or money order for $110 made payable to the U.S. State Department and a $25 execution fee made payable to Postmaster. Fees for children under 16 are $80 and $25.

Expediting

The cost to expedite processing at the Department of State is $60 paid per application in addition to required fees.

The cost to expedite delivery service to the passport processing lockbox is $23.75 per family for Priority Mail Express paid to the United States Postal Service.

The cost to expedite delivery service is $15.45 paid per application directly to the Department of State for the delivery of an issued passport book from the Department of State to the customer. This service is available only to mailing addresses within the United States. Not valid for passport cards.
