LPD encourages residents to report suspicious moving trucks

information provided by the Lansing Police Department

LANSING, Ill. (May 11, 2018) – The Lansing Police Department reports a noticeable increase in burglaries in the village. The offenders are targeting vacant homes that have been recently remodeled and are for sale. The targeted homes have all had new kitchen appliances installed, and those appliances are what was targeted.

The offenders are utilizing U-Haul-style vehicles to commit these crimes. In some cases the U-Haul was a box-type truck, while other incidents have reported a U-Haul van-type style.

There is no specific time frame to be aware of, as some of these crimes may go unnoticed or unreported for long periods of time.

The Lansing Police Department is asking residents to keep an eye on the vacant homes in their area and to report any suspicious activity to the police department. If you observe a moving-style truck at a vacant house—especially if appliances are being loaded—and you feel that a crime is in progress, call 9-1-1.

The Lansing Police Department is asking for anyone that has information pertaining to these crimes to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 708-895-7150.
