Helene Pauline Richy
On September 19, 2018 the world lost the most wonderful, faithful, and loving wife and mother, Helene Pauline Richy (nee Lena) age 72. She died peacefully in her home in Lansing, IL, right across from her church—St. John’s Lansing—where she is survived by her husband and pastor of St. John’s, Rev. Dr. John M. Richy.

Helene always loved children and was a natural mom. She is also survived by her four children: Rev. E. Klemme and his wife Jennifer, Ronald W. Klemme and his wife Stephine, Adam A. Klemme and his wife Amy, and her only daughter Ashley H. Richy. Having her five grandchildren around her was the most joy she could ever express, and she was always so proud of them and everything they did. Her oldest grandchild Ean, her buddy and confidant. Allie, her talented and wonderful granddaughter. Anderson her happy, positive guy. Aaron—sweet, kind, spirited little red head. Finally, Noah, her talkative cookie monster.

Helene was preceded in death by her mother Florence Lena and her grandmother Juliana Herman.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, September 23, 2018, from 2:00 to 8:00pm at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL. Funeral services for Helene will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018, at 12:00 noon at St. John Lutheran Church, 18100 Wentworth Ave., Lansing, IL, with Rev. Michael A. Croon, Sr., officiating. Friends may also visit with the family from 11:00am until time of service. Helene will be laid to rest at Oak Glen Cemetery, Lansing, IL.

Those were not her only children she took care of and loved. Proud den mother for the Boy Scouts, directing the kids and coming up with creative projects for them. For years she was a school secretary at the Avery Coonley School in Downers Grove, Illinois, where she was also a nurse to the children, but also a friend, confidant, and caregiver to them. Later in life she fulfilled her true calling as a nurse when she gained an associate degree in applied science at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL. Eventually retiring after taking care of the elderly with different types of dementia and end-of-life issues at The King-Bruwaert House, where she brought love and peace to the unloved and forgotten. Always a caretaker, she looked after everyone.

Helene was such a creative person. Loved to crochet, garden, flower arrangements, etc. Because of this love of arts and crafts she started “The Loving Hands” Ministry at St. John’s, where they would make cute things to sell for their ministry. As leader of the group she let everyone have a say. She loved all the ladies she worked with, as they helped and supported one another.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Helene’s name to St. John Lutheran Church, 18100 Wentworth Ave, Lansing, IL 60438, or to the Shriners.
