“It was a huge project, but we got it done,” says Vivian Payne, Chair

LANSING, Ill. (October 3, 2018) – Since its first meeting in April, the Lansing Beautification Committee has planted summer flowers in all the large and small pots along the main thoroughfares, as well as in the new History Plaza and Fox Pointe. In addition, all nine Welcome to Lansing signs were landscaped and planted.

The end of summer instigated another responsibility of the committee—changing out the flowers from summer to fall plantings. “We planted mums, different types of kale, pansies, marigolds, and some filler plants,” said Vivian Payne, who Chairs the Beautification Committee.

The committee planted an estimated 280 mums, 150 kale, and 370 filler plants. The Village has 47 pots in the downtown business district, 2 large pots at the Patti Leach Youth Center, 3 large pots at Village Hall, 2 large pots at the Roy Street roundabout, and 2 large pots at the 178th Street roundabout, in addition to the landscaping at History Plaza, Fox Pointe, the Firemen’s Memorial, the welcome signs, and Village Hall. Changing the seasonal plantings took about five days to complete.
