information provided by the Lansing Police Department

LANSING, Ill. (November 16, 2018) – On November 14, 2018, at approximately 4:14pm, the Lansing Police Department, the Lansing Fire Department, and EMS, responded to TF South High School for a report of an unresponsive subject in the pool area.

Upon arrival, CPR was being performed on a 14-year-old student from TF North. It was learned that the student was practicing with the swim team and had been swimming in the deep end of the pool when he went underwater. Another swimmer located him and pulled him from the pool where CPR was initiated. He was transported to Munster Community Hospital and later to the University of Chicago Hospital.

Today the Lansing Police Department learned that the student had passed away.

The Thornton Fractional School system has sent out information to parents and are making grief counselors available to the students.
