‘Taste of First’ returns to First Church PCA

Food, fun, and fellowship help support Angel Academy and PASS

LANSING, Ill. (February 17, 2019) – For just 50¢, you can get a taste of chili, or potatoes and ham, or Caribbean turkey, or lemon squares, and enjoy it in the company of foodies from Lansing and beyond. On March 8, from 5:00–7:30pm, First Church PCA will host their 10th annual Taste of First, a festival of home-made entrees, soups, sides, and desserts.

Organizer Sandy Hamer encourages people to come as early as possible because even though the portions are small, vendors sell out. “People come from all over,” she said, not just members of First Church, and not just residents of Lansing.

Tickets are sold at the door for 50¢ each, and experienced Tasters purchase 10–20 at a time, knowing they want to sample as much as possible. Depending on size and substance, a single taste can require one, two, or three tickets.

Hamer couldn’t remember every item on this year’s menu, but she rattled off the following dishes that church members have committed to making:

  • Potatoes and ham
  • Fried chicken
  • Caribbean turkey
  • Italian sausage
  • Italian beef
  • Chili
  • Pea soup
  • Broccoli cheese soup
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Pasta salad
  • Cole slaw
  • Peach cobbler
  • Pecan pie
  • Truffles
  • Lemon squares

Coffee, water, and soda will also be available for one ticket.

Ticket purchasers are given a tray and instructions to walk around the room purchasing whatever samples look interesting. Tables are set up, so sample shoppers can sit and eat whenever their tray is full.

Proceeds from the Taste of First help support the work of PASS Pregnancy Center and Angel Academy Preschool, both ministries of First Church PCA.

First Church PCA is located at 3134 Ridge Road, on the northwest corner of Ridge and Burnham.
