LANSING, Ill. (March 21, 2019) – From the Kankakee River to the city of Chicago—including sites in Homewood, South Holland, Lynwood, Beecher, Grant Park, Momence, and Dyer—up to 40 adults will have the opportunity to learn about the historical significance of familiar locations. Jeff White’s annual Local History Class begins on Wednesday, April 10, and will continue on consecutive Wednesdays through May 8.
White, a Lansing resident and a teacher at Illiana Christian High School (now in Dyer, Indiana), has a portfolio of dozens of area sites, and each year he selects several for the five-week class. Finalizing the visits involves coordination with a variety of contacts, and sometimes plans change at the last minute. But because of the depth of White’s network, he is able to quickly make substitutions as necessary.
Most nights the class will run from 6:00–9:00pm, though occasionally the time may vary depending on the field study for a particular evening. Participants will meet at Illiana (10920 Calumet Avenue, Dyer, Indiana) and travel together to the field study locations on Illiana’s school bus.
The cost for the 2019 Local History Class is $70 per person, and there is room for 40 people. A registration form can be printed from Illiana’s website and submitted with payment to the school office:
