LANSING, Ill. (April 24, 2019) – On Wednesday, April 17, representatives from Lansing’s Meals on Wheels program received a big check. The check was from JX Enterprises, a Wisconsin-based truck dealership with a branch in Lansing. JX employees had contributed $1,025 to donate to a local charity of their choosing.
JX Enterprises’ CEO Eric Jorgensen explains on the company’s website, “JX has long been a leader in the transportation industry. …But, what good is success, if at the end of the day, we have not made a difference in the lives of others? That’s why, as a company, we seek out local community needs and as a group, give back to the communities in which we live and work.”
“We’re more than just trucks,” Jorgensen adds.
Rick Smith is the Manager of Corporate Outreach at JX Enterprises, Inc. He made arrangements with Denise Cox, Communications Coordinator for Lansing’s Meals on Wheels. Cox and fellow volunteer Joann Kijewski accepted the check from members of the Lansing JX branch, which is located at 2100 Bernice Road in Lansing.
The donation will be used to fund the hot, nutritious meals that Lansing Meals on Wheels prepares for and delivers to more than 40 Lansing residents each week. Many of the recipients are elderly, and some are homebound. The program has also been a blessing for patients undergoing chemotherapy who cannot cook for themselves.
A ministry of the First United Methodist Church, Lansing Meals on Wheels relies on dozens of volunteers who cook, bake, prepare, coordinate, and drive. Cox says the JX Enterprises donation will go a long way to buy ingredients and food supplies, but there is still a desperate need for more volunteers to get the work done.
