Lansing fire hydrants being repainted

by Melanie Jongsma

LANSING, Ill. (May 14, 2019) – In late April, Lansing fire hydrants began shedding their rusted, faded yellow coats of paint in favor of shiny red. “Painting of the fire hydrants is a project of the Water Department at Public Works,” said Public Works Director Gary Richardson via email.

Richardson has hired a company that power washes a hydrant and applies a primer in a matter of minutes. Workers then return several days later to spray the final coat of paint on.

Most of Lansing’s hydrants have already been repainted, but the company will be back in late May to finish the south end of town.
