Greenbay Avenue project to be paid for from water/sewer budget

LANSING, Ill. (May 16, 2109) – “It’s probably one of the worst streets in Lansing,” said Administrator Dan Podgorski at the May 7 Village Board meeting. He was referring to the section of Greenbay Avenue between Heritage Middle School and 191st Place.

That part of Greenbay Avenue was not on the list of 2019 street resurfacing projects, but it can be addressed this year because the water main there needs to be replaced as well, so funding for the street repair can come out of the water/sewer budget rather than the street budget.

Jeff Pintar, who serves as Village Engineer, further explained that Greenbay Avenue has experienced four water main breaks in that area in the past three years. The project will involve replacing 475′ of water main, replacing all the curbs, and replacing any affected driveway entrances. Doing so will help ensure that water drains properly off the new street, so the life of the new asphalt can be extended.

Ideally, the project will be completed this summer, before students and teachers return to school, so traffic congestion can be kept to a minimum.

Trustees will vote whether to move forward with the project at the May 21 Board meeting.
