by Matthew Splant

LANSING, Ill. (May 30, 2019) – Since 1969 Boz Hot Dogs has been a staple in the region. It began when the Hart and the Banks families opened the first one. Today there are 10 locations in Lansing, Thornton, Hazel Crest, Dyer (Indiana), Bourbonnais, Morris, Steger, and Kankakee.

On May 24 all locations celebrated their 50th anniversary by having discounted food and raffle drawings. The grand prize was a 50″ flat screen TV. Other raffle prizes included $5 gift certificates, Boz anniversary t-shirts, and Pepsi merchandise. A stream of customers kept the staff busy and filled the seats at the Lansing location.

Bob and Carol Bollacker are the owners of the Lansing and Dyer locations. Founded in 1984 by Bob’s mom and dad, Sue and Bob Sr., the Lansing location was bought by Bob and Carol in April 2014. In 2016 they purchased the Dyer location when it came up for sale. Bob and Carol, high school sweethearts, were previously a printer and a school teacher, respectively, and they had decided it was time for a change.

Recently they added milk shakes and soft serve ice cream cones to the Lansing menu. And Lansing residents will see the Boz food truck at events like Cruise Nights and Autumn Fest. Plus, they’ve added GrubHub as a delivery service.

Sue wants everyone to know, “We are not just hot dogs. We have pizza bread, sloppy joes, egg salad sandwiches, hamburgers, and garden salads.” Additionally, “We are a mom and pop store in the end and want a very personable environment for our customers.”

  • Boz Hot Dogs’ Lansing Location is at 2513 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois.

  1. Prior to being Boz on Ridge Road, that site had been a breakfast restaurant owned by my parents, called The Nook. We only had it for a couple of years, until my father developed terminal cancer, and we sold The Nook in order to concentrate on our other restaurant in Lynwood, Eugene’s. We were very happy to see Boz move into the site, and I’m happy to see they’re still going strong!
