Lansing residents encouraged to plan ahead for vehicle sticker purchases

Last day—June 30—is a Sunday, so offices will be closed

LANSING, Ill. (June 10, 2019) – The price for vehicle stickers will double on July 1, so the Village of Lansing is encouraging vehicle owners to purchase their stickers before the end of the month. At the June 4 Committee of the Whole meeting, Village Treasurer Arlette Frye reminded people that while June 30 is technically the end of the month, it is a Sunday, so people will not be able to purchase a vehicle sticker from the office that day.

Saturday, June 29, is the last day purchase can be made at the Lansing Municipal Center before the price goes up. “Don’t come in on Monday, July 1st, and want to get your sticker for $45,” said Frye. “It ain’t gonna happen.” The price on Monday, July 1, will be $90.

The Lansing Municipal Center is open from 9:00am until noon on Saturday, June 29. In the past, the last day to purchase vehicle stickers at the regular price has seen long lines of last-minute sticker buyers.

Frye is hopeful that people will plan ahead and take advantage of the convenient payment options.

“I wish more people would take advantage of online purchasing,” she told the Board, “because it is the most efficient way—not only for you as a resident who needs a sticker, but also for us as staff who have to process the payments.”

In addition, online purchasing is available on Sunday, June 30, so residents who want to wait until the very last day but not be charged double can do so only via online purchase.

All vehicles in the Village of Lansing are required to have a vehicle sticker displayed at all times. Stickers must be displayed on any motor vehicle operated by a Lansing resident on a public street or highway within the Village. Stickers also must be displayed on any motor vehicle that is not in use but is kept or stored within the Village. Leased and company-owned vehicles also are required to have vehicle stickers.

According to Village ordinance, the fine for operating a vehicle without having a vehicle sticker shall be not less than $100.00.

The Lansing Municipal Center is located at 3141 Ridge Road.
