Lansing’s Bev Jacobson ends Summer Haiku season

by Melanie Jongsma

LANSING, Ill. (August 28, 2019) – “I haven’t written a haiku since my son and daughters were students at Oak Glen school in the 1970s,” reader Bev Jacobson told us. Apparently our Summer Haiku project reignited a latent spark, as Bev submitted eight haiku at once! “I had a lot of fun with the summer theme!” she said.

She wasn’t presuming that we would publish all of them, but…how could we choose?

1.

Minnesota night
Northern lights glowing above
A heavenly sight

2.

Bouncing in the wake
Tubing more fun than You Tube!
Summer on the lake

3.

Hear the lonely loon
Call his mate from the next lake
Crooning to the moon

4.

The Mississippi
Flowing from Lake Itasca
Walk across on stones

5.

Starbursts in the sky
Celebrate Fourth of July
Oohs and Aahs abound

6.

Drifting on the lake
Watching an awesome sunset
Nature at her best

7.

Clamp-on roller skates
Playing hopscotch in the street
Old time summer fun

8.

Thunder rumbling near
As lightning brightens the sky
Rain refreshing earth

Thank you for haikuing!

In addition to Bev Jacobson, we’d like to thank all our Summer Haikuists who made this project so fun: Daniel Blom, Mary Paulton, Rose Polgar, Valentina Ranaldi-Adams, Sydney Schurman, Carol Van Drunen, and Tish Yos.
