La Michoacana Compi celebrates grand opening

Lansing welcomes homemade ice cream shop

LANSING, Ill. (September 8, 2019) – Dozens of people crowded into the pink and green ice cream parlor, while a DJ broadcast energetic music from the sidewalk outside. La Michoacana Compi had opened for business three weeks ago, but today’s Grand Opening party and ribbon-cutting gave people an opportunity to officially welcome the new business and sample its wares.

With flavors like Tequila, Nuez (nut), and a specialty called Gansito that involves chunks of cake stirred into vanilla ice cream, the shop has a definite Hispanic flair. But other common flavors are available as well—chocolate, chocolate abuelita, cajeta (caramel), cappuccino, and even plain vanilla. In addition to ice cream La Michoacana Compi sells nachos and other snacks, and a variety of flavored beverages.

Lynwood resident Tanya Perry admitted that she was at La Michoacana Compi last night for Butter Pecan ice cream, and that’s when she learned about today’s Grand Opening festivities. She returned today for another serving of Butter Pecan. She can tell the difference between homemade ice cream and store-bought and is glad to have a homemade option so close. Members of the Lansing Fire Department served as Village officials and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony, after which Owners Rosa and Ruben Gonzalez cut cake into generous portions and served it to guests. Ruben also works at Calumet Bakery in Lansing, so his cake-making skills are equal to his ice cream-making skills.
