Prairie State College woodwind group to perform November 15

WHITING, Ind. (November 13, 2019) – A woodwind group formed at Prairie State College will perform at the final Greening of the Arts concert Friday, November 15, at Calumet College of St. Joseph (CCSJ), 2400 New York Avenue, Whiting, IN.

The Brilliant Etesian Ensemble will play at 7:00pm at the Barbara Goodman Black Box Theater. The quartet includes Lupe Esquivel, bassoon; Ken Carlborg, clarinet; Niki Juarez-Cummings, flute; and Larry Meschi, soprano saxophone, clarinet, and bass clarinet.

It is a bi-state group. Esquivel lives in Park Forest, IL; Carlborg in Chicago Heights, IL; Juarez-Cummings in Steger, IL; and Meschi in Highland, IN.

The Ensemble’s repertoire runs the gamut from classical, jazz, and pop to rock. Composers will include Peter Schickele, Jaques Ibert, Yehezkel Braun, and Duke Ellington.

The Greening of the Arts Show in the adjacent Bernard Gallery ends November 20. It is co-sponsored by the bi-state Association for the Wolf Lake Initiative (AWLI) and Calumet College.

Prior to Friday’s concert, the author of the newly published history of AWLI, Over the Line, will sign books from 6:30 to 7:00pm.
