December 13 is last day for this year’s leaf pick-up program

LANSING, Ill. (December 5, 2019) – At Tuesday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting, Building Commissioner Zoran Savic reminded people that the seasonal leaf pick-up program is coming to an end on December 13. “We’re asking all residents to step out this week—it’s gonna be nice—and get all the leaves picked up,” said Savic. Code enforcement officers have been knocking on doors and posting notices encouraging residents to get their leaves raked and bagged in time to take advantage of pick-up by Homewood Disposal Company.
Leaves and other yard waste should be placed in the green-lidded toters or in brown paper yard waste bags, then placed in the same location as weekly garbage bins.
Because of the early snowfalls in Lansing this year, and some freezing rains, many residents were unable to take care of normal fall yard work during November. Leaves had frozen onto sidewalks and gutters, creating walking hazards and drainage issues. The warmer, dryer conditions this weekend will provide opportunity for leaves to be cleared from yards, sidewalks, and gutters, preparing Lansing for rain and snow-melt in the coming months.
