Bill L. Bowers, age 79, of Lansing, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.
Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra (nee Cavinder) Bowers; and his son, Billy Bowers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore & Lenora Bowers; and his sisters, Naomi Follis and Nancy Miller.
Bill began working for the Lansing Fire Department as a fire fighter in 1971. During his tenure, he also became a Chief Fire Inspector. Full fire fighter honors will be bestowed during the viewing on Monday evening.
A visitation and viewing will be held on Monday, March 9, 2020, from 4:00–8:00pm at Memory Lane Funeral Home, 6305 W. Lincoln Highway (US 30), Crown Point, Indiana. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 10:30am at the Family Christian Center, 340 W. 45th Avenue, Munster, Indiana. We will all miss Bill’s smile & joyfulness that he always showed to folks he interacted with. I am sure it had everything to do with joy in his Savior. Reflecting Jesus !!
I was Bill’s mail carrier for over 20 years. Knocked on his door countless times with emergency issues that I needed his advice on.
He was always willing to either come in person or give direction to help solve maladies that often occurred. He was a safe, friendly, and knowledgeable source of community service.

I always enjoyed crossing paths with Mr. Bowers, inspecting for our Fire safety or just seeing him around town the conversation was always good.
Men like Mr. Bowers make Lansing a great community!
