MUNSTER, Ind. (March 27, 2020) – After Indiana Governor Holcomb’s Monday, March 23, directive for residents to “shelter in,” Theatre at the Center and The Center for Visual and Performing Arts has made the decision to suspend all public events and performances in the theatre through April 29, effective immediately.

The safety and health of our patrons, performers, and staff is our highest priority, so he Center for Visual and Performing Arts will be closed to the public through April 7 as mandated by Indiana’s governor. The theatre box office, the South Shore Arts Gift Shop, the art galleries, the meeting rooms, dining rooms and kitchen areas, the Trama Catering Events Office, and the administrative offices for Theatre at the Center, South Shore Arts, and the Northwest Indiana Symphony will all be closed to the public.

As already announced, Theatre at the Center (TATC) cancelled all the remaining March mainstage performances of Almost Heaven: John Denver’s America, as well as special event performances by Creole Stomp, the Waco Brothers, the Purdue Varsity Glee Club, and John-Mark McGaha’s tribute to Stevie Wonder presented by Artist Lounge Live.

All Theatre KIDS classes have been suspended, as has the Theatre for Young Audience run of Aladdin scheduled for April 13-19, and The Prince and Princess Party in the CVPA Dining Room on April 18. The TATC 30th Anniversary Big Band Concerts and Dinner on April 18 have also been cancelled.

The Ultimate Doo-Wop Show on April 5 presented by Henry Farag has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date to be announced.

As a nonprofit organization, TATC is asking all ticketholders if they would like to convert the value of their tickets to a tax-deductible donation to help offset the Theatre at the Center’s significant loss of revenue during this difficult period. We are also prepared to issue a gift certificate in the amount of your purchase that will be good for any of our future performances. At this time, all events after April 29 will remain in place.

For questions about Theatre at the Center cancellations, or concerns for any patron who has already paid for tickets for an event that has been canceled, know that the TATC box office staff are in the process of contacting ticket holders to assist with arrangements. When box office staff return on April 7 (pending the lift of the “shelter in” from the State of Indiana), staff will continue to follow up with patrons to assist. Should you have an immediate need to contact the box office, please email Jamie Marsh, Front of House Operations Manager, at [email protected]. During this time, the CVPA lobby and box office will be closed every day until the tentative re-opening April 7.

Food service operations as provided by Chef Joe Trama and Trama Catering at The Center for Visual and Performing Arts, including the weekly Sunday Champagne Brunch and the Easter Brunch seatings on April 12, have also been cancelled. Patrons and guests should continue to visit www.TheatreAtTheCenter.com and www.CVPA.org for further developments. Dining events and food service questions can be directed to Trama Catering at 219-836-1930, x2, where all phone messages are being checked once a day. Or email Trama Catering and CVPA Events Planner Christine DalleCarbonare at [email protected].

Any questions related to The South Shore Arts Gift Shop, the Art Galleries, The Northwest Indiana Symphony performances, or South Shore Arts Classes and Events can be directed to South Shore Arts at 219-836-1839.
