information provided by Theatre at the Center

MUNSTER, Ind. (April 23, 2020) – With Indiana Governor Holcomb’s directive to “shelter-in-place” now extended through May 1, and in anticipation of an extension of that date, Theatre at the Center (TATC) has postponed its April/May run of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Talley’s Folly and canceled all TATC stage performances and theater events through June 30, 2020. Talley’s Folly has been rescheduled as part of TATC’s 2021 Mainstage Season. In addition, both TATC and the Center for Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) are suspending all public building events through May 1, 2020.

The new performance dates for Talley’s Folly will be April 29, 2021, through May 30, 2021, with all previously purchased tickets updated to patrons’ Theatre at the Center accounts as a credit to redeem for Talley’s Folly tickets once 2021 tickets go on sale. Box office staff will contact all patrons to discuss and make arrangements once box office hours can resume following the state mandated shelter-in-place order.

The Ultimate Doo-Wop Show on April 5 presented by Henry Farag has been postponed and will be rescheduled for a date to be announced later.

The May 5, 2020, Tuesday Matinee Series concert featuring the return of The Neverly Brothers has been postponed and rescheduled to 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2020, with all previously purchased tickets automatically honored, and patrons’ accounts updated to the new date.

June events canceled

In addition, the following June special events and concert performances have been canceled:

  • Lovesick Blues: Remembering Hank Williams (June 6)
  • Comedy Night (June 12)
  • Mojo and the Mannish Boys with Wayne Baker Brooks (June 13)
  • Heartache Tonight—A Tribute to The Eagles (June 19)
  • Artist Lounge Live Series concert, “Silly Love songs—A Tribute to Paul McCartney” (June 20)
  • MS Charity Dinner in the CVPA dining room (June 20)

The safety and health of the patrons, performers and staff remain the highest priority.

As a nonprofit organization, TATC is asking all ticketholders if they would like to convert the value of previously purchased tickets to a tax-deductible donation to help offset the Theatre at the Center’s significant loss of revenue during this difficult period. Box office staff is also prepared to issue a gift certificate in the amount of the ticket purchase valid for any of our future performances. At this time, all events and performances after June 30 remain as scheduled, but are subject to change.

Building closed through May 10

Currently, The Center for Visual and Performing Arts building, including the lobby and box office, remain closed to the public through May 10, the recommended date from the Center for Disease Control, or a later date as necessary to comply with Indiana Gov. Holcomb’s shelter-in-place directive. The box office team is grateful for customers’ patience during this time.

The South Shore Arts Gift Shop, lobby atrium gallery and main art gallery will also remain closed pending The Center for Visual and Performing Arts’ anticipated May reopening date. For questions about The Northwest Indiana Symphony performances or South Shore Arts classes and events, contact South Shore Arts at 219-836-1839.

Patrons with previously purchased tickets to any TATC event NEED NOT CONTACT THE TATC BOX OFFICE, as the box office team has temporarily suspended operations while the CVPA building remains closed. The process of contacting all patrons and subscribers with paid tickets to the postponed play run of Talley’s Folly, as well as any canceled concerts or special events, will resume once the box office and building reopen.

For immediate questions and concerns about Theatre at the Center performance cancellations, please contact our special TATC hotline at 219-836-3395 to leave a message to have your call returned. Pending the next directive of Gov. Holcomb, the CVPA lobby and TATC box office will once again resume business hours.

Food service operations as provided by Chef Joe Trama and Trama Catering at the CVPA, including the weekly Sunday Champagne Brunch, have also been suspended through May 1. Dining events and food service questions can be directed to Trama Catering at 219-836-1930, x2, or email CVPA Event Planner Christine DalleCarbonare at [email protected].

Patrons and guests should continue to visit www.TheatreAtTheCenter.com and www.CVPA.org for further developments.
