LANSING, Ill. (June 18, 2020) – Originally scheduled as a live performance, the Juneteenth Journey through African American History has added virtual viewing in deference to COVID-19 restrictions. The live event will take place at In the Upper Room Ministry (17601 Wentworth Avenue) for 50 attenders (masks required). Those who wish to view the event virtually can register via Eventbrite.

The Eventbrite description says in part, “Take a virtual journey with us through the major eras in African American history with live performances followed by a forum for how we move forward during this movement. We will remember the impact of slavery in America, then fast forward to the Harlem Renaissance period of the 1920s, featuring artists like Langston Hughes and Charlie Parker. We can’t stop there because the Civil Rights Movement ended racial segregation and led to Brown vs Board of Education. Now in the Black Lives Matter era, we are currently dealing with social and economic injustices. African American History has been a complex part of American history but an essential component to the development of this country’s success.”

The Juneteenth Journey through African American History will take place live on Friday, June 19, from 6:00–9:00pm. The event is produced by For Your Joy Multimedia Productions, a company focusing on art and entertainment that inspires while providing spiritual awareness.
