Opportunity Works program for unemployed young people who want to explore career offerings

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. (September 16, 2020) – Applications are now available for Prairie State College’s internship program, Opportunity Works. Designed to provide subsidized internships for Cook County residents, the program is open to young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 who are unemployed.
More than 33,000 young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 are disconnected from both work and school in suburban Cook County. At the the same time, many employers report a shortage of skilled workers. Opportunity Works placed young adults in subsidized internships, exposes them to viable careers, expands their skill sets, and connects them to the training and resources they need to achieve long-term employment in growing industries.
The program offers:
- Subsidized internships
- Career exploration
- Foundational skills training
- Job placement and retention support
- Transportation
- Wraparound services
Elegibility requirements are:
- 16-24 years old
- Resident of suburban Cook County
- Currently unemployed
