South Holland Fire Department responds to structure fire

SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. (January 8, 2021) – On Thursday January 7, 2021, at approximately 9:45 p.m., South Holland Fire Department was dispatched to 224 E 170th Street for a reported house fire. Dispatch advised that one subject had not exited the building but all other occupants were outside. South Holland Police Department arrived and found heavy smoke and fire through the roof. Officers tried to gain entry to the victim but were unsuccessful due to heat and smoke.

South Holland Fire Department companies arrived on scene and immediately coordinated an aggressive interior fire attack along with a search for the victim.

Multiple hose lines were put into use to get the fire under control. Assistance was requested through the use of our Mutual Aid Box Alarm System.

Victim was located and Advanced Life Support care was initiated. Victim was transported to Ingalls Memorial Hospital and then transferred to University of Chicago Burn Unit for further care.

This fire is currently being investigated by investigators from SHFD, SHPD, MABAS 24, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Preliminary reports from the investigators show the cause to be accidental and not suspicious.

SHFD received assistance from Dolton, Riverdale, Phoenix, Thornton, Calumet City, East Hazel Crest, Hazel Crest, Lansing, Oak Forest, and Tinley Park. South Holland Police Department, Code Enforcement, and Public Works also assisted with the incident.
