Drug investigation leads to arrest

LANSING, Ill. (January 20, 2021) – On January 20, 2021, at approximately 5:00 a.m., the Lansing Police Department’s Tactical Unit, with the assistance of Lansing’s Emergency Response Team, executed a search warrant on a residence in the 3400 Block of Monroe Street.

Joe Lawson, age 39, of Lansing, was taken into custody and ultimately charged with Possession of a Defaced Firearm as well as misdemeanor charges for Possession of Packaging Materials. He was processed and transported to the Markham Courthouse located at 16501 S. Kedzie Markham, Illinois, where he will have a bond hearing on January 21, 2021.

Mr. Lawson has previous charges for Possession of a Firearm, and by law is not legally allowed to possess any firearms.

This arrest was the result of an extensive drug investigation that was developed through leads from Lansing citizens. People with information about illegal drug activity are encouraged to contact Lansing’s tip line at 708-895-7105. Callers may remain anonymous.

  1. Lansing neighbors: please keep your eyes and ears open around your neighborhood. It may be the only way to help keep our police informed about questionable activities and it may save some lives! It’s sad to think there are people among us that need to be caught and removed but we need to do all we can to keep our great town just that – a GREAT, safe town!!
