Lansing encouraged to ‘show the love’ to local restaurants Valentine’s weekend

By Josh Bootsma

LANSING, Ill. (February 7, 2021) – As many Lansing businesses continue to struggle amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Village of Lansing has named February 12–14 as “Love for Lansing Restaurants” weekend.

The campaign, subtitled “Weekend of Community Support,” asks residents to visit Lansing restaurants for Valentine’s Day weekend, a time usually popular for dining out. Many Lansing restaurants have pivoted to carry-out options in the last year, but as of January 23, restaurants in suburban Cook County have been allowed to accommodate indoor diners with capacity restrictions.

Digital Valentine’s card

The Village is also encouraging residents to create a “digital Valentine’s card” showing their support for Lansing restaurants and email it to [email protected]. The Village will post the Valentine’s greetings on social media the following week. “You can take a picture if you’re in the restaurant, … [or] if you want to create something online, wherever the creativity strikes you,” said Village Communications Director Ken Reynolds.

Village supporting restaurants

The Village promoted a similar event that took place on April 1st called “Shine a Light on Lansing: a Night of Shining & Dining,” when it encouraged residents to light candles “to show support for medical professionals and first responders during this time of need.” Participants were also encouraged to order a candlelight dinner for pick-up or delivery.

“I hope you guys are jammed that night,” Reynolds told restaurant owners present at the February 2 Village Board meeting, “I hope you can’t keep up.”
