Thank you, February supporters

128 of you represent growth in ownership

by Melanie Jongsma, Publisher

LANSING, Ill. (March 2, 2021) – It was a year ago in February that things began to change at The Lansing Journal. As I reported in “Adjustments we had to make this year,” that’s the month when Shopper owner Arlo Kallemeyn decided he was ready to get out of the newspaper publishing business. Click on that link to read some of the details and fallout of that decision.

Until that time, Shopper personnel had been handling our bookkeeping, so my records from that era might not be as complete as they are now. But my notes say that 54 people made financial contributions to The Lansing Journal during February of 2020.

This February, 128 of you contributed.

That kind of growth is important—and only partly because of the dollars. Yes, more contributors means more money, but more contributors also tells me that more people value this community newspaper enough to invest in it, to take ownership of it.

That’s what will sustain us for the long haul.

So please join me in thanking the 128 people and businesses listed below. They supported The Lansing Journal last month. And we all benefit because of their investment.

  1. Hi,

I sent in a check for $60 this year which was $5 a month for 12 months. Is that considered a one time donation or once a month for 12 months?

    • Hi Donna, thank you for your support! Yes, I see that you sent in a $60 check in January, and I recorded it as a January gift. I didn’t realize you were calculating that as a monthly gift of $5—I apologize. Let me take a look at my spreadsheet system and find a way to track one-time gifts that are meant to be spread out over a year. Thanks for letting me know!

P.S. I’ve added your name to the list above. Thanks again for your support!
