LANSING Ill. (November 19, 2018) – The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is offering $50 to anyone who takes a survey recounting their household’s travel on a specific day.
The “My Daily Travel” survey can be taken by residents of Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties in Illinois, and Lake, LaPorte, and Porter counties in Indiana. The survey closes in May of 2019.
The survey consists of two parts. The first is an online survey about you and the members of your household, and includes your home address, work address, automobile information, commute information, etc. The survey takes about 20 minutes and concludes by giving you a date on which you must record your household’s travel time.
The second part of the survey is recording and submitting your household’s travel time online, on an app, or over the phone. CMAP offers a printable travel log to help participants track their travel.
CMAP’s website encourages residents to participate: “By providing accurate information about your daily travel, you will help ensure that funding to maintain roads, bridges, and transit is spent where it is needed most. Your travel information will help build a complete picture of local and regional transportation needs, so decision-makers can effectively recommend where to make improvements.”
2008 was the last time travel data was collected by CMAP, before rideshare and navigation smartphone apps became popular.
